the growth of the cerebral hemispheres. Its cavity diminishes as its wallsthicken, and contracts to form the aqueduct of Sylvius. The epencephalon, or fourth secondary vesicle, is developed into the ponsVarolii and the cerebellum, and the metencephalon, or fifth secondary vesicle,forms the medulla. The cavity of these two secondary vesicles, which it will beremembered constituted the third primary vesicle, forms the fourth ventricle. The development of the pituitary body has of late received much attention.It is mainly formed by a diverticulum from the buccal involution of epiblast.At its upper and front part this involution, from which the mouth or stomodaeumis developed, forms a hollow saccular protrusion, which extends into the angleformed by the bend of the mid-brain.
